Promoting Synergy, Confidently Entering a New Era of Rise
(DTO) On the morning of June 30, 2025, Dong Thap province held a ceremony to announce resolutions and decisions of the central and local authorities regarding the merger of provincial- and commune-level administrative units; the termination of district-level administrative units; and the establishment of Party organizations, the designation of Party committees, People’s Councils, People’s Committees, and Fatherland Front Committees at the provincial, commune, and ward levels.
The merger of Dong Thap and Tien Giang provinces into Dong Thap province marks a historic turning point, comprehensively planned within the Party and State’s apparatus reform process. It reflects the spirit of renewal and convergence, embodying the great national unity, especially the solidarity and shared determination of the leaders and people of Dong Thap and Tien Giang provinces.
The merger of Dong Thap and Tien Giang provinces to establish the new Dong Thap province has expanded development space, creating conditions for the two localities to leverage their respective strengths, thereby generating superior potential for strong, comprehensive, and sustainable development in the new historical phase. It also creates a favorable environment for planning and investment; for the development of riverine eco-tourism, historical and cultural relics, traditional craft villages; processing industries, logistics, and digital transformation, serving as a driving force to connect the Mekong Delta with the Southeast key economic region.
This provides more favorable conditions to improve people’s living standards, enhance competitiveness, and contribute to shaping a new image for the new Dong Thap province, oriented toward “Green – Smart – Innovative – Preserving cultural identity.”
At the same time, it aims to build the Pink Lotus Land into a prosperous and thriving region, ranking among the leading localities in economic and cultural development, gradually narrowing income gaps and improving people’s quality of life.
By promoting the strength of synergy, Dong Thap province confidently enters a new era – the nation’s era of rise, setting progressively higher GRDP growth targets.
In addition, promoting synergy helps ensure better implementation of social security policies; improve the quality of education and healthcare; attract talents; encourage entrepreneurship and innovation; and strive to become a startup hub of the Mekong Delta region.
The new Dong Thap province after the merger will also focus on developing agriculture toward ecological, modern, and high-quality standards, striving to become a leading locality in building ecological agriculture, modern rural areas, and civilized farmers.
Priority will be given to improving the quality of agricultural products to meet regional and global standards, especially key sectors such as rice, fruits, seafood, and flowers and ornamental plants.
The province will accelerate the application of safe and organic science and technology across production, processing, and value chains to create new values, increase agricultural product value, expand markets, boost export turnover, and effectively respond to climate change in the locality.
In the context of the merger of Dong Thap and Tien Giang provinces to form the new Dong Thap province, looking at the overall picture in 2025, this is a year of particularly important significance.
Accordingly, it is a year of “acceleration, breakthrough, and finishing strong” in implementing the socio-economic development goals and tasks for the 2021–2025 period, associated with the implementation of Conclusion No. 97-KL/TW of the Party Central Committee on socio-economic development for 2024–2025 and Conclusion No. 123-KL/TW dated January 24, 2025 of the Party Central Committee on the supplementary socio-economic development plan for 2025, with a growth target of 8% or higher.
It is especially marked by the decisive implementation of consolidating and reorganizing the apparatus of the political system; terminating district-level operations; rearranging commune-level administrative units; implementing a two-tier local government model in a timely manner and in accordance with central guidelines and regulations; and focusing on leading and directing the organization of Party Congresses at all levels and the Provincial Party Congress for the 2025–2030 term.
In addition, in 2025, the new Dong Thap province after the merger also faces intertwined difficulties and challenges such as complicated and unpredictable global and regional developments; increasingly complex climate change impacts, drought, saltwater intrusion, and landslides; limited internal economic capacity, low competitiveness, and insufficient resources for development.
In that context, the Provincial Party Executive Committee and the Provincial Party Standing Committee after the merger have united, promoted synergy, and focused on decisive and synchronous leadership and direction.
The entire political system has acted with a spirit of solidarity and high responsibility, accurately assessing the situation and taking decisive action. With great efforts, high determination, solidarity, and renewal of the entire political system, along with the dynamism and creativity of all strata of people and the business community, the province has overcome difficulties, achieved positive socio-economic developments, and improved people’s living standards.
Party building has seen many innovations; the political system has been streamlined and operated effectively and efficiently; national defense and security have been maintained.
The year 2026 holds particularly important significance as a pivotal year opening a new development phase for the province, both inheriting achievements of previous years and implementing the Resolution of the First Provincial Party Congress for the 2025–2030 term and the Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan for 2026–2030.
On that basis, the Provincial Party Standing Committee will focus on comprehensive leadership and direction of socio-economic development tasks, ensuring national defense and security, and building a strong political system; while continuing to synchronously implement key guidelines and solutions associated with major resolutions of the Politburo.
Authorities at all levels and sectors will continue to promote solidarity, uphold responsibility, remain proactive and creative, seize opportunities, overcome difficulties, and effectively mobilize resources to foster development, maintain social stability, and improve people’s living standards.
At the same time, they will streamline and enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the organizational apparatus in conjunction with building a clean and strong Party and political system, meeting requirements and tasks in the new situation.
With a new year comes new momentum and new determination. It is believed that with revolutionary tradition, solidarity, renewal, and a strong aspiration for development, the Party Committee, authorities, and people of the new Dong Thap province will strive to overcome all difficulties and challenges, promote potential and advantages from synergy, and continuously propel Dong Thap toward breakthroughs and further advancement.
