Tan Phu Commune Holds Gathering to Mark the 63rd Anniversary of the Ap Bac Victory
(DTO) On the afternoon of January 2, Tan Phu Commune, Dong Thap Province, held a gathering to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the Ap Bac Victory (January 2, 1963 - January 2, 2026).
Exactly 63 years ago, on the land of Tan Phu, the army and people achieved the resounding Ap Bac Victory, ushering in a new phase of the resistance war against U.S. aggression for national salvation.
The Ap Bac Victory affirmed a profound truth of lasting significance: “The strength of the Vietnamese people and people’s war under the leadership of the Party is an invincible force”.
This was not only a military triumph but also a victory of great strategic, political, and spiritual significance. It shook public opinion both domestically and internationally, forcing the enemy to reassess its entire war strategy in VietNam.
Following the Ap Bac Victory, the emulation movement “Compete in the spirit of Ap Bac, fight the enemy and achieve merits” spread widely across southern VietNam, reinforcing confidence, momentum, and determination among the army and people. This movement made an important contribution to the revolutionary cause, leading from one victory to another and culminating in the historic Great Spring Victory of 1975.
After 63 years, as the echoes of war have faded, Ap Bac - Tan Phu today has taken on a new, peaceful, and prosperous appearance, with people’s living standards steadily improving.
Speaking at the gathering, Mr. Tran Van Do, Chairman of the Tan Phu Commune People’s Committee, said that upholding the heroic traditions of their homeland-particularly in 2025, the first year the commune operated under the two-tier local government model-the Party Committee, authorities, and people of Tan Phu Commune remained united and resilient, overcoming numerous challenges and achieving significant results across various fields.
Economic development and infrastructure recorded notable progress, with average per capita income reaching VND 76.5 million per year and budget revenue attaining 122% of the annual target. Agricultural production remained stable, with output of rice, short-term crops, and perennial crops all exceeding set targets.
The commune maintained and enhanced the criteria of an advanced new-style rural commune following the administrative merger, fulfilling all 19 out of 19 criteria. The poverty rate dropped sharply to just 0.36%.
Socio-cultural development continued to improve, with human resource quality and educational attainment gradually rising. Cultural titles were maintained and strengthened; care for people with meritorious service and policy beneficiaries was carried out fully and promptly. Six out of seven schools met national standards; all 10 national health criteria were sustained; and the rate of health insurance participation reached 99.99%.
Political security and social order were maintained, military recruitment met 100% of assigned targets, and Party building, the political system, and the great national unity bloc continued to be consolidated and strengthened.
Entering 2026, inheriting the spirit of the Ap Bac Victory, the authorities and people of Tan Phu Commune are determined to renew their thinking, enhance the effectiveness of state management, promote democracy and the strength of great national unity, focus on sustainable socio-economic development, improve the material and spiritual life of the people, and build Tan Phu into an increasingly prosperous, civilized, and compassionate commune.
