The British Embassy in Vietnam Works with Dong Thap Province
(DTO) On the morning of January 15, at the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee, Vice Chairman Huynh Minh Tuan, together with representatives of the Provincial People’s Committee Office, provincial departments, and relevant agencies, welcomed the working delegation of the British Embassy in Vietnam led by H.E. Iain Frew, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Vietnam, on their visit to Dong Thap Province.

Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the provincial leadership, Vice Chairman Huynh Minh Tuan extended warm congratulations and sincere appreciation to Ambassador Iain Frew and members of the delegation for taking the time to visit and work with the province. He also provided an overview of Dong Thap’s characteristics and its socio-economic development potential.
Vice Chairman Huynh Minh Tuan noted that, over more than 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations and 15 years since the signing of the Strategic Partnership framework, the relationship between Vietnam and the United Kingdom has grown increasingly strong across various fields, from politics, diplomacy, trade, and investment, to cooperation in culture, education, and people-to-people exchange.
Alongside the development of bilateral ties, cooperation between Dong Thap and UK partners has also progressed positively across multiple sectors. Notably, in 2025, the province’s export turnover to the UK market reached 189.96 million USD, while import turnover amounted to 604,000 USD.

Ambassador Iain Frew expressed his delight in visiting Dong Thap, noting that this is his first visit since the two countries upgraded their diplomatic ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
He affirmed his commitment to realizing the key cooperation goals set by the leaders of both nations and to further expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation in investment, trade, green transition, digital transformation, and education and training, the core pillars of sustainable development.
Ambassador Iain Frew emphasized that Dong Thap presents opportunities for cooperation in digital transformation, science, technology, and education and training. In the field of education, he noted that UK educational service providers offer diverse programs ranging from primary to university levels, as well as professional training courses in fields such as accounting and auditing, and are ready to collaborate with partners in Dong Thap.
Vice Chairman Huynh Minh Tuan expressed his hope that Ambassador Iain Frew’s working visit will further strengthen and expand the connection between Dong Thap Province and the British Embassy in Vietnam.
He added that Ambassador Frew would serve as an important bridge, helping UK partners explore opportunities for cooperation and investment in Dong Thap, thereby contributing to deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the United Kingdom. The province also reaffirmed its commitment to improving the investment environment, supporting enterprises, and creating the most favorable conditions for investors and international partners, including those from the UK, to explore and implement long-term projects in Dong Thap.

On behalf of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee, Vice Chairman Huynh Minh Tuan wished Ambassador Iain Frew and the delegation good health and expressed hopes that the friendship and strong partnership between Vietnam and the United Kingdom in general, and between Dong Thap Province and the British Embassy in Vietnam in particular, will continue to grow and flourish.
