Vietnam Coast Guard launches 2026 coastal sea and island survey mission in South Central region
(DTO) On the morning of July 21, Vessel CSB 8001, operated by the Coast Guard Region 3 Command, departed port carrying a delegation tasked with conducting the 2026 survey and assessment of Vietnam's coastal seas and islands in the South Central region.
The delegation was led by Major General Tran Van Xuan, Deputy Political Commissar of the Vietnam Coast Guard. It also included Major General Be Hai Trieu, Director of the Mass Mobilization Department under the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army, along with leaders of the provincial Party Committees, People's Councils, People's Committees, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees, and various local departments, agencies, and mass organizations of Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Dong Thap, and Vinh Long provinces.
The mission aims to strengthen coordination and information exchange between the Vietnam Coast Guard and local Party committees, authorities, armed forces, and residents in coastal localities, while surveying and comprehensively assessing the actual situation in coastal seas and islands to support policy recommendations and command decisions on safeguarding national sovereignty and maintaining maritime security, order, and safety.
According to the plan, the delegation will conduct legal awareness campaigns for fishermen and inspect compliance with regulations on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. It will also inspect the legal compliance of selected cargo vessels operating at sea and encourage fishermen to strictly observe fisheries laws.
The delegation will also pay tribute to fallen heroes and national patriots at Hang Duong Cemetery; visit and present gifts to Party committees, local authorities, and residents of the Con Dao island district; hold a flag-raising ceremony at the Phu Quy Island Flagpole; visit and present gifts to military personnel and residents on Phu Quy Island; lay flowers in memory of the martyrs of the "No-Number Ships" who made the ultimate sacrifice at Vung Ro; and inspect and encourage the on-duty maritime militia vessel of Khanh Hoa Province. During the voyage, cultural, artistic, and sports exchange activities will also be organized to strengthen solidarity and cooperation among participating localities and delegation members.
The survey mission is being conducted under the cooperation program between the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Coast Guard Party Committee and the Standing Committees of provincial Party Committees in implementing the mass mobilization program "The Coast Guard Stands with Fishermen" for the 2026–2030 period. It also builds on the outcomes of similar coastal sea and island surveys carried out in 2025.
Through the mission, the Vietnam Coast Guard will continue to update and comprehensively assess the situation in Vietnam's coastal seas and islands, providing a basis for advising the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defence on policies and measures to enhance the efficiency of maritime governance, safeguard national sovereignty, maintain security, order and safety at sea, promote the sustainable development of the marine economy, and contribute to the country's efforts to expedite the removal of the European Commission's (EC) "yellow card" warning on Vietnamese seafood exports.
